Last night I slept in the recliner with a heated throw and another on top of me up to my neck. Nice and cozy compared to bed the night before, but the heat had me wake up with itchy arms around 3 a.m. Was able to go back to sleep and slept really well.

It was a really good day today, except for the visit from the home health nurse who had to draw blood because I'm now on a blood thinner (Warfarin). I have tiny veins that keep collapsing and eluding them. It took her FOUR tries, and they all hurt like you know what, but on the fourth try she got just enough to take to the lab. She later called with the good news that the blood work was good and I could stay on the current dosage of Warfarin. Yay!

Early afternoon the occupational therapist came to evaluate me. After seeing and hearing what I'm able to do on my own, she determined that her service won't be needed. Yay again -- one less person coming to my house and me trying to schedule.

I managed to wash and fold a whole big load of towels. Also stripped my bed and washed the sheets, which still need to go in the dryer. I'm sure I'll get tired if I try to make the bed tonight, but we'll see how it goes.

Two friends from my Bible study came late afternoon and brought me a scented candle, some broccoli cole slaw, some type of Asian soup with cilantro, a couple beautifully decorated cookies and a small amount of whole grain bread. They stayed to chat quite a while and then walked to my mailbox to retrieve my mail for me. I've had such wonderful support and feel very lucky and so grateful.

Although I know every day isn't going to be a good one, I seem to have had two good days in a row now. Don't want to push my luck, but it would be great if it's a trend!

Well, after being sick most of January, I ended up heading to the ER by ambulance on Saturday, 1/25, and just got out last Friday, 1/31. The strong antibiotic I'd been prescribed ended up causing all sorts of problems, including making my tongue look and feel like raw meat, making it very painful to eat. Also caused a skin rash and a UTI, which I was treated for in the hospital.

The REAL problem, as I learned, was that my heart went out of rhythm, and they shocked me back into rhythm, but it went right back out again. I had all sorts of tests (including being tested for the flu, which I did NOT have).

Was released on 1/31 - last Friday, and it's been a rough go ever since. I still think they should have probably sent me to a rehab facility for a few days, anyway, but they decided against it. I will get some home health care, physical and occupational therapy, etc. and will be homebound for the next four weeks, at the very least.

It's very frustrating to have to rely on te kindness of others, and I have a lot of trouble asking for help, but I'm not turning down any offers.

A couple of friends have really stepped up to the plate and are helping me make the transition back to better health, but I feel it's ogging to be a long haul.

I have been so very sick for the past two weeks, which has resulted in a good weight loss but for the wrong reasons.

Got a cold on 12/31 and finally went to the doctor this past week when I realized that it had morphed into a horrible sinus infection. Was very suprised that in addition to Prednisone and antibiotics plus Mucinex and saline nasal spray, she prescribed an inhaler. Although I wasn't feeling any chest pain, she said that my lungs sounded very tight and "wheezy."

Yesterday I started feeling noticeably better and, by the end of the day I discovered that I was starting to smell and taste again. This was both a blessing and a curse, since it included the gunk inside my head.

Before I got the meds, I'd been taking OTC cold meds, including Nyquil which really knocks me out and helped me get some great sleep. Well, last night I was afraid to take it on top of everything else so didn't.

Fell asleep in the recliner and woke up in a cold sweat but breathing well enough that I thought I'd try going to bed. I haven't been able to sleep in my bed in a couple weeks, and it felt great to lie down, but I kept waking up damp and cold.

Today I'm back to feeling like crap and have little energy. This bug is nasty, and I do not wish it on anyone.

While home resting and trying to heal, I am reading Dr. Joel Fuhrman's book on "Super Immunity." Diet really plays a huge role in building up our immune system, and you can bet I am seriously changing mine once I start feeling better.
