Wowza! Good thing your wife properly calibrated your scale!

Funny, Kp! I thought no one saw that! sssssh! I think I got it back correctly. It is funny about scales. Why you shoud never mess with them. The one in the gym, which I believe is accurate, says I am 255 when mine says 260. I always have mine 5 pounds more. Exactly why my wife put it back to zero. lol You are so funny!

I'm jealous of y'alls avocado eating.... I bought some yesterday but none are ripe enough to eat yet, so all I can do is look at them :( Bad part is, when they do get ripe, it'll be at the same time, then the ones I don't eat fast enough will go bad, lol!

Yep, they have a narrow window of too green vs too ripe. Mine are kind of green right now, but they will get more ripe, and then too ripe and soft. You can't get too picky with them, unfortunately.

Ok. so when are you supposed to eat them so they dont taste so bad..when they are more firm or when they are really soft?

I buy mine bright green (or at least as bright green as they've got), when the green starts to darken a bit, but they're still pretty firm, that's when they're best.

For me, it's a soon as they start getting soft. As soon as I can barely press in on it, I eat it. Once it gets too soft, or if you cut it open and can see the brown fibers, it's too ripe for me. I hear you can freeze them, anyone have any experience with that? I'd love to be able to save them... Better than wasting money by throwing away rotten ones!

They should be delicious. It is nice when you can easily spoon the fruit. Fuerte and Hass are the best.

Generally I keep avocados out on the counter when underipe but you can slow down the ripening if you put them in the refrigerator when they are getting close to ripe. When avocados get brown all the way through, they are definitely trash. If they are little brown on the edges or a bit too soft, I mash them (instead of eating "straight") and put in a little garlic, onion, salt and pepper (or lemon, balsamic vinegar) and they are still good eating. The other day I spread this mix on cold pork loin slices. You could stuff celery or load cucumber slices.
