Sunday was my mother's 82nd birthday. Gail and I phoned her (and my aunt and uncle, Aida and Eugenio, since mummy was visiting them for the day). Everybody sounded wonderful.
It was also the second anniversary of the start of my change of lifestyle. I'd have liked to have a weight to record on that day, but the battery on my scale chose to pack it in nearly two weeks ago, and I only got a replacement yesterday (it took over a week to get new batteries by post). In the interim my weight has come down a pound and a half.
Over the past two years, since 25 March 2010, I've gone from weighing 380 lbs (27 st 2 lbs, 172.37 kg) and a BMI of 54.5, to 162 lbs (11 st 8 lbs, 73.48 kg) and a BMI of 23.2. I want to stabilise at two pounds lower which would give me a BMI of exactly 23, safely in the middle of healthy (well above the minimum healthy BMI of 18, but with a nice margin separating me from the maximum of 25). In two years, I've dropped almost 99 kilos. My goal will get me to almost, but not quite, 100 kilos off.
Oddly -- very oddly -- I weighed myself yesterday at the gym, and on that scale my weight was 142 lbs. That scared me. I haven't weighed that little since I was in my twenties, and I couldn't believe that my weight had suddenly crashed. I rather suspect than an overused scale flatters the clients.
