MrsTofu, just sharing what made me stick to my journey. The Ortho doc my GP sent me to told me I would probably have a knee replacement within 2 years unless I lost weight and exercised. I was in constant pain. Find a goal that you need to accomplish for yourself besides just losing weight. Something that getting to your weight and fitness goals might accomplish My goals were twofold, no surgery and to stop the pain..I had no guarantees but I had to try, it has worked so far.
