My food plan is evolving (or devolving depending on your viewpoint) since I last journaled. I was discussing my food plan with the doctor who did my breast surgery. I shared with her that I had not been eating meat for some months to help prevent a recurrence. She gave her opinion that eating clean, staying active and quality of life are the three big things to prevent a recurrence of breast cancer. She sees eating organic as more important than whether or not you eat meat. Obviously, body mass is a big deal in all this. Body fat stores estrogen on which B/C thrives. It’s hard to hear the BMI part again. This is not a new thought, it’s established fact. When my BMI is way too high it’s scary. So, just sharing these thoughts, especially with those of you who are at risk (men included).

What I want for myself is to change the way I think about food, about eating and about the scale. Somewhere along the journey of childhood I came to define myself by my weight and my appearance. I judged my sense of self by that and lost the battle every time. Food became my comfort, my companion and my “something to look forward to”. I understand the stupidity of it, and yet it is so ingrained. To stay within a calorie and body movement range is crucial, as is something to gauge my honesty about how much I eat. On the other hand, the very act of keeping a watchful track of everything is a setup for the obsession. A successful food plan depends on my ability to keep it from becoming a “religion” or a way to define my self worth. Sometimes I have to step away from it all to pause the game of seeing how much I can eat to either gain or lose weight per the scale. Yet when I step away from calculating all this, I need the honesty of periodic weigh-ins to keep me from self-deception. What a Nut, Lol!

Three day trip to Chicago didn’t hurt me on the scales! Lots of walking around downtown and great Chicago food with my Daughter Diane and Grandson Austyn. Pouring down rain didn’t dampen our spirits any! We had so much fun, ate wonderful food and still the scale is friendly, woohoo!
