I've decided to try something new. I've been reading Michael Pollan's book "In Defense of Food" (I've read other books by him "The Botany of Desire" and "The Omnivore's Dilemma" -- excellent books!) The book is an indictment of the food industry and the overly processed food they create. It makes sense to me. His suggestions:
1. Eat food. (That is, don't eat foods with a long list of ingredients that you're not familiar with. Eat real food, as unprocessed as possible.)
2. Not too much. (This is the problem I fight, of course. But the problem is exacerbated by eating all the processed food with high fructose corn syrup added. So I will eat smaller quantities of high quality food, high fiber, high protein.)
3. Mostly plants. (I'm not becoming a vegetarian, but meat won't be the focus of every meal. Veggies are really good for me and I like salads with lots of variety.)
All right, I'll keep you posted. Wish me luck!
