jsfantome's Journal, 18 Dec 11

Just wanted to say hi - haven't been on much this weekend. This weekend has had its ups and downs emotionally - lots going on here at home - but the biggest disappointment of the weekend was the youngest son found out he did not get into MIT. Bummer. He's kinda sad. :( But he's such a trooper... "onward and upward!"

He is applying to 6 other colleges, and knee deep in Christmas prep around the house... it's just been crazy busy. Everything is going well food and exercise wise... that is good news for me!

Hope you are all well... talk again tomorrow.

Much Love.

Life is like that ... I hope things work out for your son. Sometimes the biggest disappointments end up being our biggest blessings!! However, only time will teach him that ... right now he's going to be sad.

Sometimes getting into a place someone wants to go is not in the best interests for one's future. I NEVER went to college. My mom refused to fill out the financial form with her income on it, so I couldn't go. My dad put her through school and she always did treat me like trash anyway. I joined the service instead. I learned to write on my own, not even one writing class either. It probably took five times longer for me to get really good at writing, but sometimes God knows what is better for us than we do. Also, in writing the books sometimes information came to me almost as if by magic - so I knew I was being helped and it was from a higher source, so your son may not go to MIT, but someplace else where he may meet his future wife, etc.

Wow! MIT! Just to apply he's gotta be a brain. There will be a place for him. Sounds like you've got a smarty for a son :)

@GlennM -- same story here, except my step-Dad refused to fill out the forms. How ironic to read this. Thought I was all alone in that situation. I must agree about God knowing what's best. Small world, the college I wanted to attend and couldn't how now become a university and guess what? I work there (and can get a degree at no-charge if I want) ... but at 43, I think I am OK without it. Sorry, to jump in on your post jsfantome ... I didn't realize I was posting in your journal, oops.

Paula, I know your son is a bit disappointed as well he should be...he has been an exemplary student! While we all can easily say that something better will come along, etc. it really doesn't remove the disappointment and sadness that comes when you want something so desperately. I am hoping that another door opens soon that will be both a soothing balm and a wonderful opportunity.

Sorry to hear about Son. I'm sure there's a bright future ahead no less. As CoachCJ points out it takes skills simply to apply there. I hope the next days will be better for you guys.

He has been blessed, and known God since he was 2 or 3. Always thought he would eventually become a Pastor. And he still might. But he is truly gifted and really smart. He wants to get his degree in Engineering, and then go out in the Mission Field to other countries to help under developed 'people' with both their spiritual needs and their 'engineering needs'. To be both a practical help and a spiritual one. He's very tender hearted, and a great kid. Really. And my trust is in God. Fully in control of what HE has for our son, I am not concerned. But yeah...when you are smart enough to try... and you think it's what you want... it is disappointing. But it's not God's Plan - obviously. And we are all waiting more in excitement to watch that unfold - than anything. Thanks for all the love and support!!! Much Love.

Hope the stress is less, good job on keeping on track despite the stress. Sorry to hear your son didn't get his first choice but sometimes not getting what you want is the right thing. Time will tell.
