Happy hump Wednesday to our community! I gave my double, red blood donation yesterday. I always hope, that there is a possibly, I saved a life. At one time, I gave "babies blood", being antigen pure, but they need more blood now. So I give a double dose. It helps to be large, also, as the loss of a pint of red cells can be impossible for smaller people. I felt great, and they said my iron levels were very high, so my diet is paying off. Once they told me my blood had been used for a shot, police officer, so it made me more committed. I now can give another double, donation in 112 days. Have a great day, everyone!

Last summer, my husband was in a car accident and was brought to the Trauma center by helicopter. When he arrived, he was 'bleeding out'. They replaced more that 50% of his blood volume. It saved his life. I am very grateful to all those who donated that blood, and to the doctors who were there to administer their skilled emergency surgery and care! In the weeks that followed, we all donated to replace that blood, so that someone else would have it at that most crucial moment.

When I explained to a friend that he's not quite perfectly recovered, but good enough, my friend replied, "oh, was he perfect before?" Ha. We're all not quite perfect, but good enough! We're grateful everyday for his near perfect recovery. Just passed the one year anniversary of that terrible day. And that wonderful rescue/save!

It is interesting, that in the old days, people could sell their blood for a about $20. Now a donation is worth over $100, and no one can sell their blood like the old days.
