I would like to make a point about LBGT rights. The GOP has knocked out their presidential platform. Tony Perkins of his Family Values Coalition, was able to pass most of the platform. One point was not to let gay parents adopt children. In my opinion, this will leave many children without homes in government placement facilities. I would like to give one example in my teaching, that gave me some background to this issue.

I had an Afro-American student, who was trying to earn credit toward graduation, who was 17 years old. One day, she came to class crying so profusely, I needed a mop to wipe up her tears. Literally, she was sobbing like I had never seen. I asked her what had happened. She told me, she had been placed in many temporary foster situations, and she finally found parents that loved her, but Social Services were going take her from her parents. She didn't tell me her parents were two women. She asked me, if I could call Social Services, and validate, that she was making progress to graduation. I talked to Social Services, and they wanted to know if she was on track to graduate in that school year. I assured them of her situation related to credits, and they told me she could remain with her parents. For that school year, she and her parents assured me, that she would work hard and earn her credits to graduate. She worked very diligently, and graduated at the end of the school year, and I celebrated her graduation with her, and her gay parents. I felt it was one of the high points of my teaching.

I raised 5 boys by myself, and we were NOT on Welfare. For some reason, I didn't qualify for what was available to others. We lived below what the people on Welfare received.

Sometimes gay foster parents are the perfect fit. I work with abused and proven-risk students. If for instance a girl has been raped, she has every right to be frightened of being placed in a home with a man. Just sayin' there are all kinds of situations out there. Love makes a family. And all kinds of people have love to offer where it is needed.

Anyone who thinks gay is a choice must have considered it at some point. Knuckles, I would definitely like to know that prostate information, I don't need it now, but who knows in the future.

Had a real heart to heart talk with my doctor, that I will discuss tomorrow, but I was very impressed with the way he eloquently spoke of my situation with reason and common sense. It is complicated because my HMO insurance plays a big part of the discussion. He spoke for over an hour with me, and made my choices very clear. I am so glad that just in the last week, I was able to speak to so many, who have had some experience with this. I really THANK those.
