Well young lady, we are here for you. First you need to understand what IF does to your body. Watch videos by Jason Fung, and Butter Bob Brigs. They will give you a Really good base understanding of WHY it works. It really is about WHEN and how much you eat, and less about WHAT you eat. Well the Absolute BASE of what it is all about is insulin control. But those two men will teach you what you REALLY need to know first off. I PERSONALLY started with 16:8 fasting. Eat all my calories in an 8 hour window then just don't eat for 16 hours. YOU decided when that window is.
I as well as several others are on the IF beast mode. We only eat one meal in 24 hours. And its surprisingly easy. Several of us will continue even AFTER the challenges.
Actually, next Monday I am starting IF Beast Mode 2.0. You can feel free to join if you want to make it a challenge with goals. Tip, eating more FAT will help control hunger for FAR longer.

According to what I've learned, the greatest benefit from fasting comes at the 11 hour mark, but that means NO calories ingested during that time. Longer fasts will permit up to 500 Kcal, and still be considered a fast. You already fast when you sleep...just extend it a couple of hours!

ok sooo I probably could eat one meal only but I could do eat all my meals in 8 hrs.. does it have to be 16:8 ?

Mskestrela, I sleep 10-6 so approx 8 hrs.. I can hold off break fast for 2-4 hours but that may be it but I think I would die with out coffee LOL. This may not work out LOL

Nope, it does not have to be 16:8 But the shorter the eating window, the bigger the benefit. The longer you go without feeding, the lower your insulin level drops and the more your body burns fat. Also, cellular autophagy turns ON when your insulin drops to lower levels. That is when your body gets rid of all the unhealthy damaged cells in your body. so eating less is actually healing your body of illness. The reason many IF people go LCHF, is because it is the easiest to maintain for hunger control. HCLF has a tendancy to leave you hungry FAR FAR sooner. And much more hungry at that.

Red, you can have all the coffee you want.
There is no restriction on coffee or tea. Just sugar or anything with calories. Coffee is a life saver at times. I even add a couple tbsp. of butter to it sometimes. its 200 kcal for the butter but that has such a small insulin response I don't count it. AND it helps KILL hunger. Seriously, I think you should make the leap to IF. Its a crazy powerful tool.

As knuckles said, the Autophagy process kicks in once insulin is low and peaks around 16hrs, hence 16:8 cycle. Autophagy clears our old and damaged cells, replacing with new ones...critical for processing insulin and glucose among other things.

Ok, I like what Im hearing. I think the best way to start would be to ease into it. Imma try 14:10 .. bc i can def do that maybe even more but I need to be realistic. If I have my after work out shake at 9 am then my last meal would be at 7 pm and thats what Im aiming for to start.

We *really* need a like button on comments here.

I have been doing 16:8 for at least one year...I eat between 12:00pm and 8:00pm - but I do have coffee in the morning with coconut oil and butter

I believe we could use the "support" button as the "like" button. That's what I do without actually making a comment.

SjF60, I'd LOVE a "like" button on the comments as well as the "support" button - which I use anyway -- for the original post. My other greatly-beloved site, Ravelry, even has a "love" button. That would work really well here, I believe.

Thanks for all the great input. IF is an idea that I have been toying around with for while now and perhaps I could actually commit. With the craziness of my summer schedule, it might be a lot easier to just concern myself with blocks of time than tracking each morsel. I will have to do a little more research and watch some of these videos.

Good job HCB. I have 5 months IF under my belt. I learned the IF ratios from you guys here on FatSecret. I don't ratio it, I just use the hunger scale. 12:00 to 3:00 is my favorite time to eat. Last night I made it until about 9:00 pm last night. I have bacon and eggs in the fridge, kind of craving it today. Well good luck Redgirl1974.

So far so good, Red. I started with 5:2 and found it pretty easy after a couple weeks . Somehow after about a month and without really trying, I migrated to the 16:8. Now I do both. Eat only from Noon to 6 pm everyday and still do 600 max cals on Monday and Thursday. I like it a lot. I track everything, even mints, but when I eat, I eat whatever I want. (BTW, Altoids are 10 cals per 3 mints!)

Red, I'm a newbie to IF too. Love the results! Fasting is the fastest way to attain keto.
My FS BFF Buddy: SeekerofGrace & I both surpassed our weight loss goal this week together. We also did the 3 days "egg fast" this week. She really stuck to it and surpassed me quickly. Maybe somebody can chime in on the reason why eggs (choline). Here is a site my FS BFF shared with me with amazing recipes too!

Check it out. Pinterest has a lot of info on it too.
I created a FS 3 Days Egg Fast challenge for anybody who is interested.
