JockoT's Journal, 14 Jun 16

Woke up in considerable pain. Decided just to stay in bed, so Madge brought me my meds before she left for work. Our cat, Lucy, woke me up three hours later. She was obviously worried about me. She followed me about until I was up and dressed.
Amazed when I got on the scales this morning 13 st 13. First time sub 14 in almost 30 years. Don't know how I keep losing. I am eating well over my RDI and doing no exercise. My body must be burning loads of energy trying to repair itself.
I now know I cannot forgo my pain killers. Even for one day. The dram was not worth it. I'll stick to pain relief instead. I am so disappointed that I am not healing quicker. I have tickets for a show this Friday, and I think we will have to give it a miss. Immediately after the surgery I was so confident I would be ready in time, but that is not the case.

Sorry to hear you had so much pain, Jocko. Did you tell the nurse that you're losing so much weight even though you are eating well? I think it could be important. I'm sorry you'll miss your show on Friday but the most important thing is getting better. Take care.

Hope you are feeling better every day Jocko, and I think you are doing the right thing by keeping on the pain meds until you are healed. It may help speed the process if you are not suffering with the pain.

Jocko, what's your timeframe since your surgery? I have lost track somehow. Seems you got your staples out about a week ago or so? Have they tested your blood to see where your white blood cell count is? Being in that much pain for I'm guessing here....three weeks after the surgery...I would be concerned about an infection of some sort. It would be worth fighting the stairs just to make sure.

That is 3 weeks since the surgery and a week since the staples were removed. No bloods have been taken since immediately after the surgery. My wife has just changed my dressing and she says my BB is starting to heal. There doesn't appear to be any sign of infection. The pain I am experiencing is internal, rather than external. If I have a build up of wind in my gut the pain can be considerable but I feel no discomfort when the wound is cleaned and touched. The bruising to my lower abdomen is considerable and only changing slowly. Mind you. the back of my hands are still yellow after the removal of the tubes etc, even after 10 days.

Been reading your journals, I guess the continued loss is a bit of a silver lining, but I'm so sorry that this has been a rough time of it for you, and it must be so frustrating to wait this thing out, and miss the upcoming show! But - that said - you are healing, no infections, no bad surprises there, and that's all good and welcome. I genuinely hope things speed up for your healing so that you can be out and about soon!

My Fitbit is cheating me out of flights of stairs! Every time I go up the internal stairs, to the toilet or to bed, it should record a flight, but at the moment my movement is rather restricted and the Fitbit must assume I am using a lift or an escalator. I am lucky if it records one out of every three or four trips I make!!

Forget the FitBit right now Jocko ... get yourself fit first. LMAO! I know, these habits are hard to break. I wear mine and forget I have it on. You have a lot of internal healing to do. That is what the drainage is that you are getting. I am thinking you should be having a follow-up check up with your surgeon soon?

Sounds like you've been through a LOT. surgery really plays tricks with our bodies. Hope you feel better.

I see the surgeon on the 27th July. My Fitbit is my watch so it is on my wrist constantly. It just does its own thing and records the numbers as it goes! I don't pay it a lot of attention.

Jocko, you need to heed the alarm bells - losing 14 lbs in two weeks when you're eating well is serious, as is being in considerable pain 3 weeks after surgery. Please get in touch with either your doctor or the surgeon at the hospital. This cannot wait to the end of July. I'm not a medical person as such but I was a medical secretary and I believe these are not things you should be unconcerned about or think are normal. My best wishes to you.
