Well, a very happy Tuesday to the FatSecret community. Today, it is off to my doctor again. I am very grateful for the progress of my knee, as it continues to improve, and my assessment is, that it is about 90%, as I can run on it without problem. There seems to be a slight bone clicking, that even seems to be improving. I'm even hoping, my bone scan gives some indication to it's severity. Have a great day, everyone! Love the burgers Warren....good luck with the knee, as a question....if it bothers you, why run the risk of further injury by running?

I must be changing because that just looks like too much food. I bet delicious for two or three bites, though.

Mahjohn, you make a good point. I am looking for a good cardio workout, and I guess I feel after losing 35 pounds, maybe I can get away with it. I try my best on the treadmill to keep stress off it. Any suggestions? Maybe I could do swimming or an alternative?

Walk in the pool. water make it less stressful on your joints.

Shea, I am a decent swimmer, maybe I could get away with that. I want to get the heart going.

If you must do cardio...elliptical machine is easy on the joints...that and swimming. However, I prefer weights to help strengthen muscle and bone, and provide more than enough cardio.

Thanks, I do that also. I will experiment with it and see how things go. Thanks!

Mahjohn, in my day, I was a pretty decent powerlifter, but wow has the age changed my lifting now. It is kind of frightening. lol Everything has been reduced significantly. Also the muscle pains and strains. It's tough.

Good question, but I hurt it about 8 months ago running, and it is getting better now. Thanks for the prayers.

Power-lifting is very specific and a sport unto itself. I prefer to be very targeted in what and how I lift. I'm in the gym 9 days a month, but lift based on percentages, so you only do max reps in the final week. Much easier on the joints.

quit running 65miles per week in my late 30's. Decided to lift and do cardio about 5-6 years ago....then quit cardio completely 3yrs ago and have been working on developing a custom repeatable gym schedule over a 12 week period. 3 days per week, 3 weeks per month...one week off per month.

Mahjohn, that sounds like a great schedule. I was focusing on cardio, but I was getting very fatiqued. It would take me days to recover. Then I hurt my knee, but getting to a place, where I'd like to pick it up again. Mahjohn, things start changing at 65, and I will be 66 in January. I just need to get on a regular gym schedule.

Use the Heart Rate Recovery formula to determine your cardio level, then use it as a guide to determine if you need to add back extra cardio. If you're lifting weights with 30sec intervals between sets, your heart rate will jump to around 75% of your max and stay there for the hour you are lifting. You won't need more cardio than that.
