SupersizedinPEI's Journal, 11 Mar 16

All day I can go without even thinking about eating. But it's the night that kills me. I just don't seem to stop eating from when I put the fork down after supper, from the cut up veg in the fridge (and I do love raw veg) to the bag of microwave popcorn with butter. And at no time am I actually hungry, that's just it. I know I am not hungry but yet there I am at the Hersey's Kisses for 2-3 after supper, the bag of Oreos during Big Bang Theory, and the bowl of chips an hr or so after that. Other days it's the carrots, celery, apples and melon. It doesn't matter what, I'll eat everything. I just don't seem to be able to stop some nights.

Well, you do recognize what you're doing, so that's a pretty good step. What I did was remove the non-nutritional-calorie-packing items like Hersey's, buttered popcorn, and Oreos from the house. After supper, I'll have a zero calorie tea. I also have low cal jello in the fridge. If it's not there, you can't consume it. Good Luck PEI (a fine province too).

When I first joined I found the evening munchies hard to deal with. But my hubby agreed not to have the temptations in the house until I was ready to have them back. If you can eat the good stuff as easily as the not-so-good stuff, try to keep more of that around. A trick that helps cut down on the munchies intake is to eat using your non-dominant hand. It might sound stupid, but it works. Eating becomes frustrating so you eat less. Good luck in your journey!

Thank you guys for the great tips. I like both the low cal jello and the non-dominant hand ideas. On the plus side the amt of junk in the house is decreasing as I am not replacing it when I grocery shop. I admit things I bring into the house (like the cookies and Hersey's) I convince myself are treats my partner enjoys. However, it does turn out I eat most of the products.

I started by looking at the serving size on the package, and eating that slowly. Being diabetic, I really try to restrict sugar. Carbs are a weakness of mine too. Despite having said I'd never be one of the people who are always weighing their food, 50 grams of potato chips is the most I have for a serving. Good luck with your quest!

Laundry costs go up when eating with your non-dominant hand. When you're hungry and go into the kitchen get a big glass of ice water instead of snacks.

I can relate. It is so hard at night that food seems to scream at you to get something super fat. If you ever find the solution, please share.

Thank you jfuji, I agree with you. My concept of a serving and the label concept seem to differ hugely. And have to really try slowing down my consumption of food. LOL@Link and laundry costs. Too funny :) I am a BIG water drinker (because of having the one kidney and keeping it flushed) but drinking big glasses of water later in the night isn't a good thing for me, if I don't plan of getting up a half dozen times though the night. Oh the plus side that might be considered exercise. hehe Kathy if I find the solution I will make sure to share. :) Here is hoping we have a quiet weekend from the screaming food.

I just finished a Hydration Challenge here and found if I pushed the water earlier in the day, there was less waking at night. I'm still trying to keep up my water intake.

I'll have to do that jfuji...I was up 3 times last night. I'm just going to sleep in the bathroom..LOL.

I turned to drinking herbal tea by the pot in the evening when I get like that. I find some work to distract me anf if I do snack I make myself put it in my good diary before I eat it. Sometimes seeing that calorie count add up is all the motivating I need!

I bought a bunch of different herbal tea's and don't find them half bad. Nice difference from plain water.
