Great news: my newest book has been nominated for the Bram Stoker Award (the biggest award for horror / dark thrillers). I'm psyched -- and this isn't *entirely* off-topic. Now I have a motivating goal. They'll announce the winner at a Mid-May conference in Vegas. Last summer, when I was in the mid-180's, I bought a new suit. I'd like to lose 15 pounds before the ceremony so that I can wear the suit comfortably.

Warrenwinter, your friend is lucky to be rid of her! I've been married to the same woman for 20 years, and we've both had our share of ups and downs professionally. I have seen some people lose their minds like that, though. It's sad and ugly.

Thanks, everybody! I'm really not expecting to win this year. Last year, there was a kind of electric buzz around my book, and even though I didn't think I would win, I did. This year, I'm hearing lots of good stuff from readers, who almost universally like the book better than the first, but there's a different level of buzz, and honestly, I'm up against some really strong people. Ultimately, I of course hope to win but it really is awesome just getting nominated. Writing is a lonely business much of the time, so stuff like this keeps me working hard.
