sonnymac's Journal, 21 Jan 16

Thought I would show my journal readers the terrain that I was hiking in yesterday. As I mentioned in one of the videos I made as I started the shortcut going straight down the steep mountainside, sometimes I 'compound stupid." Here are two screen shots from one of the videos.

You basically have to plant your foot each step down and sideways to prevent any momentum building up where you might fall and start rolling downhill. The good news is the road was soft dirt, hopefully you wouldn't roll so fast. The bad news is that if you did start toppling over, the sand might hold you and damage your leg or both legs as you start to topple over. I did get my back tweaked yesterday in one such event, but I am fine today.

My girlfriend said I was loco to go alone and do something like this hike. I told her, I had good cell service and would have called for help. I didn't mention the chance though that my cell might go flying out of my reach or get buried in the sand.

Anyway going up that ridge and down and back was a real good 6.5 kilometer aerobic event. And my weighin showed it this morning. Back to my natural weight, imo, 170 pounds.

I will be putting those screenshots and the video they came from up at my blog if you would like to check it out. They will be up in about an hour.

Here is my brunch today, more spaghetti with fried eggs on top.

That sounds like a nice adventure but having a buddy would help keep your loved ones from being as worried. It's beautiful, thanks for sharing. :)

You are right of course. Unfortunately mine do not share my affection for the desert or are working. I am off on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, odd days off.

That looks amazing - where is it? As far as keeping your phone with you if you fall, a simple aquapac on a lanyard should solve that - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Aquapac-108-Whanganui-Waterproof-Phone/dp/B001G5A4JA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1453394637&sr=8-1&keywords=aquapac or http://www.amazon.com/Universal-Waterproof-JOTO-Motorola-diagonal/dp/B00LBK7OSY/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1453394695&sr=8-4&keywords=aquapac

Off Interstate 10 before Hwy 111 turnoff to Palm Springs. I was hiking the ridgeline by the windmills. Thanks for the lanyard idea.
