I'm super confused. I have a regular traditional scale that I use and have owned for a few years and it works fine. But I saw one of those cute digital scales that were all girly and had motivational post so I bought one bc the quote on this one was " today is a great day" yada yada.. I brought it home and used it and it put me at 10 lbs over my Monday weight and I was gonna accept that but then my sister told me not to bc it might be broken, SO i stepped on it again and it wobbled between 10-15 lbs more.. I feel bad, like maybe its right and I've been kidding myself all this time OR maybe my old scale is old and broken? Welp, I boxed up the new one and want to return but I also want to be honest with myself about my weight.... what should I do ...

No idea. I also have an old style scale. I know it's pretty close as one early morning I checked it against my docs (wore light workout clothes and slipped off my shoes same as I did at home) and it was right on.. I stay with it as I don't want to stress over tenths of a pound. Just me.

Our doctor has allowed us to use their scale when we want to to check our progress. We know there is a difference between our scale and theirs, so we trust theirs just a little more than ours.

One or the other might need to be calibrated.

Find something at home that gives the weight on it and weigh it to see if your scale is off. You can use a large box of laundry soap or if what you have isn't very heavy hold it while your on the scale and then weigh without it. if you've lost the weight of what you were holding I wouldn't worry.

Your doctor surgery should have a scale that you can use, or try the pharmacy, theirs should be accurate too. Your gym may have one? It is a problem! But there's no denying you have lost a weight and inches, whichever way you look at it 😀

What Addie Aline said!

Idiot Boxes are a problem. I have two...but stick with one of them most often because it is consistent although higher than the other - it is a just a relative number to help us see progress. tape measure and clothes are best! And, you may be building a little muscle by now so you lose inches but the scale is very slow.

I tend to agree with HCB, I had the same thing happen a few years ago when I bought a fancy digital one it showed 6 pounds higher than my needle one so I just went with that and it is what I went with only about a pound off from the doctors office. Key things are most scales at gyms, doctors, pharmacy look for a calibration date.

Try changing the batteries. When my digital scale gets wonky the batteries are shot. My scale is 1lb heavier than my Dr scale.

i have 2 digital idiot boxes and they tend to be about 2 lbs apart (not the disparaging difference u have Red) One is easier to use and read so that is the one I use.

I have had this problem in the past. If you really want to know the truth, weigh something that has a set, standardized weight. I use a 10-pound dumbbell, then check it with another size dumbbell for good measure. I then calibrate my scale accordingly. I do this by habit about twice a month, but I also do it whenever I see an unusual drop or gain (more than a couple of pounds) just to be sure. Good luck. I know this is frustrating!

I have used both types. I agree with Mamaxs; change out the batteries in the digital. Then make sure both are on level surfaces.

smooth level surface is a must for sure. Batteries too - good advice. I've found that some digital scales are wonderfully accurate, and others are wildly off. The one I have now, when I first weigh myself it's always wrong (I can tell because it's totally inconsistent) So I weigh myself like three times, and the second two weights match and are consistent with my efforts.
