MasetjhabaM's Journal, 25 Aug 15

So I have been training 5 days a week for the past 7 months; my body is starting to feel the pinch, I'm tired physically and mentally.
I don't want to quit but I need to go back to place where I feel energised after my gym session not feel like I need to sleep :(

Afterall gym is my source of weightloss I can't do without it because dieting is something I totally suck at!

That's just setting yourself up for failure. Weight loss is 95% dieting. All your effort at the gym is being undone by your eating. The problem is that you have tried diets that are too restrictive and not sustainable. Read through my journal and get an idea of how I have been losing weight and still eating cakes, pizza, burgers, roti, rice, etc. I am doing the 5:2 Fast Diet but doing it as a 4:3 Fast Diet. It's a method of eating and not a diet as such. Read up on www.thefastdiet.co.uk and thank me a week after doing it. :)

I tried that for 2 weeks and quit, but I feel it's my state of mind. I know gym is working for me so I decide I'm gonna eat whatever I want and gym because I know I'll lose the weight anyways, even though I could be loosing a whole lot more if I was restricting myself but I'm happy with the results. Issue is it's not getting a toll on me so I need to change. Might just start taking your advice and try that again soon. Thanks for the advice Big Boy, you're always enlightining me with your weight loss wisdom :)

I had a similar problem - although my diet is realtively ok. I run a lot and gym like crazy. As Big Boy OPtimus says, your diet is crucial. I used to find my blood sugar level would drop and I had no energy. You must remember, that new muscle requires energy to produce energy. Try doing something different like just going to another gym you are a memeber of, sometimes such a simple change can make a diference, also if you are training in the morning, try switch to the evening and vice-versa. The last thing I would recommend would be to go online - You Tube - and watch motivational clips - that always works for me.....Good Luck :)

Eating alot(of the right stuff) and gyming alot can work BUT eating whatever and gyming alot is counterproductive. That is why we find it hard to lose weight even when we put in so much of effort. What made you stop 5:2 after 2 weeks? Personally I have found that the 5:2 gives me exactly what you want - Eating Whatever and Gyming and still see results. It's so much easier to give up everything for just 1 day by eating all the low calorie/high volume food on a Fast Day and then eating whatever you want on the next day if you don't want to be strict on a non-fast day. Challenge yourself to do 3 days of 600 calories maximum per week. Sorry to be hard on you!!!

Tough love :-) Maybe it was the keeping to 600 calories for 2 days, I didn't know I could do it split out instead of consecutively; I don't respond well to hunger and there only so much you can consume for only 600 calories, that's why I ended up calling it quits. Plus I'm a developer I have too much time on my hands, there more you sit and watch code run the more you eat :) horrible excuse but.......

Plus I don't eat a lot; I eat a normal person's serving not big portions. It's just it has to be what I want. If I want to eat pizza for lunch I'll buy a real deal pizza and I'm happy; if it's a standard pizza I'll eat 3 slices or 4 at times sharing with a collegue. My point is I'm keeping within my RDI always; which mean that should have me maintain my weight, then the gym part will help me lose some weight. I'm sure I have the science behind this right, right?

over training is happening to you and if you don't rest you are going to fail big time take a week off from training and relax and do nothing and start again.

Ah but all calories are not the same and I'll explain it to you so that your knowledge becomes better and you can see where you are going wrong :) Yes you can lose weight if you keep under your RDI BUT then you need to get your macros right. So let's say that your RDI is 2000 calories, you can eat pizza all day to make up 2000 calories and somebody else can eat clean and get 2000 calories and you will most likely find that the person who ate the clean 2000 calories has lost weight but you didn't yet both ate 2000 calories. Why ? Because although both of you ate 2000 calories, the percentage ratio of carbs, protein and fat were different. Your pizza calories were very high in carbs whilst the other person kept it low carb and ate more fat and protein. The body can only use so much of carbs and then it stores the excess as fat. When you follow 5:2 you don't fast back-to-back days. You seperate the fast days with non-fast days. For 600 calories you have to be wise because 2 samoosa's is 600 calories and that's not going to sustain you. Do some research on what foods are low calories but high volume. I've found that you can make a huge meal with lettuce, steamed chicken, trim original, tomato, cucumber, mushroom, etc. but its entirely up to you to find foods you like. Have a look at my food diary to get an idea of what I've been eating and do some googling. You can have a ton of food on a fast day as long as you do your homework to find what will work for you. Another tip is to give up eating breakfast. Drink coffee/tea(no sugar or use a sweetener),water, green tea, coke zero, etc. to get you through your morning and have your 1st meal after midday. It is easier to avoid feeling hungry but not eating breakfast which will trigger the digestion process. All the best in finding your way forward :)

Hey, Ive been doing 6 months 6 times a week for an hour and a half a day, I felt what you are feeling on about month 4, the solution is HYDRATION. get yourself USN Zero Carb electrolyte replacement Effervescent Tabs and and L-Glutamine, Add 1 tab USN and 5 grams L-Glutemine to a full gym bottle of water. Drink directly after training. Drink only water while training. Then add 5grams L-Glutamine to a glass of water just before bed. Trust me. been there.
