The first time I began a high fat low carb diet it took me 5 weeks to enter ketosis (as determined by blood tests - not urine sticks). The second time it took 3 weeks. The third time it took 10 days. The fourth time it took 3 days. The first time I experienced what I call the plagues. My immune system, no longer suppressed, attacked everything bad in my body. It was a revelation. Things that had been troubling me for years got worse for about three days each and then suddenly got much, much better or disappeared completely. I have experienced something similar to a much, much, much milder degree each time I go back into ketosis. I am doing this because it seems the only way I can lose weight and because it makes me feel awesome after the first harsh hump of getting in. I sincerely believe this diet should be initiated in a supervised in-patient treatment facility, but that is not available to me at this time for a number of reasons so I do the best I can on my own. Anyway, this first day I will be eating as I normally do (badly) to show myself what I am doing when I'm doing poorly. Then tomorrow I will begin the process of entering nutritional ketosis.
