Ok two things today. Ones a question and ones a rant.. 1.If been mostly off low carb for 3 days now.. Im starting 100% tomorrow. Will I loose a lot like i did the 1st 2 weeks or will I go back to 1-2 lbs a week? 2. Eating non low carb foods wasn't a great as I remembered this time. Im not talking about me feeling guilty for eating cake and ice cream more like, it wasn't satisfying and I realized I don't like chips and queso any more or cake , but I ate it anyway just because I could and I feel like I have a brick in my stomach and my stomach is not happy at all if you know what I mean... Is it common or possible my body doesn't want carbs any more even though mentally I feel like I was thinking ": oh i miss carbs so much, these last six months. Im confused about how I feel after eating what ever I wanted..again this isn't one of those rants where i complain about cheating bc I feel guilty, this is different. Dont laugh but I feel like a drug addict thats relapsed. Any one ever feel like this or have some insight? Im spending the day in bed that back to base camp in the morning !

If you've been on LCHF diet and are adding carbs back in it should be done slowly to give your body time to adjust. Just as if you were on a very low fat diet and adding fat back in. Otherwise you risk GI issues as it appears you've found out. Since you were only eating carbs for 3 days you'll probably go back to 1-2 lbs/week.

I find if it's only a few days I get right back to normal. But if its a week or more its like starting over for me with the headaches and trips to the loo. If you go all out and eat tons of cake, donuts, etc, your body will rebel. I got pretty sick after the last birthday that I ate junk( and I didn't even eat that much).

Nic, my body is rebelling , and Mike says his is too.. I cant wait for tomorrow to start eating clean again.. Lesson learned.. Thanks Cat, I think I shocked my body with all the crap I ate.. I am soo never doing this again.. It wasnt as great as I thought it would be.. Lesson learned here? The grass isnt always greener LOL

Food is a drug of choice for many! Glad you are getting back in the game!

when you give up the carbage,, to me it doesn't taste so good when you go back. I found the carbs left a bad taste in my mouth .

I, too, have found that while the grass can look greener....it can just be healthy looking weeds! I am sure you will be back to your old self soon. You will undoubtedly have to drink lots of water the next few days to flush all those nasty toxins out that found a way into your body. You'll do it....you know how!

I agree totally, Red. I have been cycling my carbs so once a week I have a higher carb day - but I still avoid the white flour stuff or starchy grains and dairy. I just eat more of the carbs I normally eat. If I go for the grains and eat bread or high sugar stuff - I am sure I would feel horrible!

I'm not low carb but processed foods, junk foods, lots of sweet even in small doses give me a little kid tummy ache. Not nice. It's like my body is saying stupid person why did you do this to yourself!

My doc said radically lowering your carb intake is similar to giving up cocaine.....dunno if it is true but it made me feel better and explains the headaches, shakes and dizziness.

Ditto on Wholefoodnut's comment. Regarding Atkin's, I don't think it is sustainable... and being a former "followed atkin's to the letter" follower, losing 40 lbs (then gained it back), I am qualified to say so. I have been eating 45 - 55% carbs since january 2014, and have consistently lost fat when I carried the appropriate calorie deficit. The carbs I eat are typically clean (ack! Don't look at today's food log!), which helps control my insulin response, and ultimately my sugar and carb cravings. I don't miss carbs because i eat plenty. When I do go off the path like today, its not a binge that puts me in the ditch, but a choice I made that keeps 2 of my wheels on the pavement. Instead of my planned 640 cal deficit, I had a 44 cal deficit today... it's still a deficit! And I dont "over correct" to get back on the path by punishing myself with unreasonable restrictions for days without end , as that could "flip the car"... but I gently ease back on the path with minor adjustments, and resume the normal course as soon as i am on the solid path. I'll probably eat my normal breakfast and lunch cals, and either limit my dinner cals or walk 2 miles to finish the day with a 900 cal deficit or so, instead of 640, then resume 640 till I reach my goal. Not sure why I wrote all that, but it is late, my eyes are heavy... and someone probably needed to hear it. Stay strong!

ckworksalot. For some people staying on Adkins works even into the maintenance. Mummydee is an example of someone who has done low carb for years. For me it didn't; 3 or 4 times stuck to it by the book lost 30+ pounds each time gained it back. Made me sick to my stomach as I can't eat all that meat and the ketosis breath made me nauseous constantly. I felt awful most of the time. Needless to say not sustainable for me. I had to figure out a plan for life for me. My plan includes anything I choose but I eat mindfully and lots of whole grains, legumes, veggies, some seeds and nuts a bit of meat scattered in. If I'm away or grab something like a pastry because my glucose drops to far and I need a quick fix or share a pizza with my grandkids, I just adjust a bit the rest of the day or the next but not drastically. It works for me.

@Wholefoodnut: regarding ketosis breath... did not make me nauseous nearly as much as those I was talking to! :0)
