Been having a hard time with eating out lately. We've had friends coming over like every other day for the last few weeks, and the location of our apartment apparently leads to everyone wanting to eat. Within a half block radius, we have 2 Mexican places, Five Guys burgers, Fire House subs, Dunkin Donuts, a grocery store, a drug store, and 2 gas station/convenience stores. Within a 2 block radius, we have a McDonalds, Burger King, Cafe Rio (burritos and Mexican-style food and salads), Wendy's, Chik-fil-a, a local ice cream joint, a frozen yogurt place, Olive Garden, Texas Roadhouse, and just a little beyond that is even MORE food establishments. Within a 10-20 minute walk you could find absolutely ANY sort of food you could ever want. And everybody knows it.
I will say, the Dunkin Donuts is nice for hangover mornings after a party, or a nice little treat after the long walks my fiance and I take every Sunday (weather permitting). We usually get one donut each and an unsweetened iced tea after a 4.5 mile power walk (power being about 4mph so we can still workout and talk at the same time).
So yeah, guess what I've been eating a LOT of lately. It's hard to refuse, too, because you don't wanna be the one calorie-counting "snob" who is "too good" to eat out "on occasion", and I've been accused of lately. We're starting up a new RPG game that's supposed to meet every Thursday and I really, REALLY don't want to be eating take out like that once a week. I offered to make dinners ahead of time if people could gather a bit early and contribute ingredients, but no one seemed very keen on the idea. I'll try talking to my fiance about it more, seeing as he's going to be GM-ing this game and has a bit more influence than I do.
And I'm kind of not a big believer in the "just order something healthy" option for going out. That's not always an option. Portions are WAY too big, and I don't want to be eating the same lunch for like 3 straight days to finish it all, and even salads can frequently creep up toward or even beyond the 1,000 calorie mark, for ONE MEAL! Fiance and I could split something, sure, we usually do, but I still think it's just too many calories, I'm DEATHLY afraid of food poisoning so it's hard for me to trust people making my food, and it's just getting expensive, even if we do split something.
I'm just kinda tired of it. Gonna start telling people we're not going to hang out anymore, other than our already established and planned Thursday game nights, and just going to make dinner for myself and Fiance. If the others wanna eat out, they can. Or if they want to partake of whatever I make, they have to pay me in cash per serving, or contribute toward it's making ahead of time. So there.
