It's been an eye-opening realization that I can still eat out with some minor changes. I never realized how many calories and how much fat the bun on most burgers adds! For example, Red Robin has an excellent interactive nutrition calculator. If you remove the bun from the Bonzai burger, you save about 300 calories and 13 grams of fat. What? That's what I said. After customizing to no bun, margarine or mayo the fat went from 60 grams to 27. I can still eat a burger in a restaurant as long as I leave off the bun and have it with a nice salad. That makes me so happy! Yeah, I'm obviously amused by the smallest things.

Glad you are happy and amused! It is usually the smallest things that make us jump for joy, isn't it? I love the burgers at Red Robin! I usually get it on lettuce, which I don't mind...it's the fries that I love to eat!

My eye opener is what portions look like. I'm Zoning and it requires a lot of use of the food scale and the measuring cups, which I hated at first, but now it's eye opening. I don't need a whole cup of oatmeal - or polenta. 1/4 cup wild salmon packed tight on your plate is actually a significant portion.

@BeGracious Yes, I love their fries too! The big issue is the "bottomless" part, though I find myself leaving food on my plate lately. I've actually found I prefer my burgers on the plate without a bun now. @JW444 Yes, portion size is cray-cray! Now that I'm getting used to eating like a thin person, I'm shocked at how much I used to pack in.

I LOVE restaurants that provide the nutrition right on the menu! How cool is that! We can still eat out, then! Panera's is another good one. Do you know of any others? It's difficult to eat out, so I try as hard as I can to find one that provides either the info on line before I go or one on the menu. If not, I get the same 'ol, same 'ol--salad...LOL.

@Jillzee00 I think you can find the nutrition info of most restaurants online now. We look up the info ahead of time so we have an idea what to order. More and more places are providing interactive meal builders, too. That way you can remove the bun from a burger, or super fattening sauces, and get an idea of the calorie savings.

McDonald's does and so does Qdoba.

My problem isn't the "franchise" restaurant's. I have trouble with our local restaurant's. I don't eat at McDonald's at all. We went to a really nice restaurant today, but again, no nutritional information.
