I won my tennis match yesterday, which always makes me happy :). I'm not nearly as competitive as I was "back in the day", but in talking about it with my therapist it brought to light how much I compare myself to others… and that nothing good comes from those comparisons. For the next few days, I'm going to mentally take note of all the comparing I do. For my workouts, I much prefer & usually always go to exercise classes, either spinning, boot camp, circuit training, etc. I've always found it more fun & motivating to exercise in a class setting. But, along with that, comes mirrors all around & I know I use those to compare how I look and how hard I'm working to the others in the class. And even if I don't fare so poorly, those mirrors provide such a great opportunity to scrutinize every body imperfection. The other example that came to me is when we go out with other couples or I with girlfriends. I often feel "sized up" and compare what I'm wearing, what I'm saying, what I've done to others. So, for these next few days, I'll just be curious about the comparisons & negative messages I say to myself throughout.
Today, I'm off to boot camp & will see what that mirrored room brings! Otherwise, I have a few errands & more book work, but also want to get to the next chapter from my mindful eating retreat materials which will hopefully happen today too. (Stay tuned for a recap!) It's really cold here in the northeast again, so staying inside won't be a hardship… thank goodness for that gas fireplace! But first, I'll start in prayer --
God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know the difference.
Living one day at a time; Enjoying one moment at a time; Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace; Taking, as He did, this sinful world as it is, not as I would have it; Trusting that He will make all things right if I surrender to His Will; That I may be reasonably happy in this life and supremely happy with Him Forever in the next. Amen.
Today, for this one day & each one meal, moment, bite, thought, emotion & comparison, I'll pray, breathe, log, journal & express my way. I'm so grateful for each of you, my family & IRL friends, warming temps starting again tomorrow & being able to stay indoors most of today and out of the frigid cold, and having the health & wealth to live this life I love! xoxox
