Oh, I should add that the 16:8 has the added advantage of compressing your daily calories into a smaller window, so while you are eating, you become much more satisfied with the food you are eating. You feel "full" more. For many, the fasting in off-hours is easier than having to deal with picking and choosing what to eat and when. One last thing, there are quite a few people that do both a 5:2 and 16:8 at the same time. For the example I gave, this would be that 5 days a week, they would eat 1600 calories in the 8-hour window, and on splurge days they would eat the 3,000 also in the eight-hour window (or maybe they would ignore or increase the window on the splurge days)...

Deb, I bought a book called the "Fast Diet" and found that it was written by the creator of a BBC documentary called "Eat, Fast,& Live Longer". It's a very interesting hour-long video about many types of fasting though not the 16/8. You can find it here... http://vimeo.com/54089463 Much more than losing weight, this video shows how fasting of all types improves an incredible number of systems in your body, and reduces a multitude of health threats. It shows how fasting reduces risk of diabetes, heat attack, stroke, metabolic syndrome, and reduces visceral fat, and total fat, etc. This documentary basically invented the 5/2 fasting diet as an easier to implement version of the alternate day fasting method. If you're interested in a lot of good info on the 16/8 fasting method, check out the LeanGains website. They pretty much invented the 16/8 fast and they lay it out in an easy to follow format. Good luck with your aspirations for a healthier you, no matter what diet and exercise plan you work with. You know that the FS community will always be here to support your efforts.

Thanks, TXSnowman! That's GREAT INFO! And Deb, I defer to most of these guys on the topic. They generally know a lot more about it than I do.
