redgirl1974's Journal, 14 Dec 10

ATKINS PEOPLE I NEED HELP! I ate rice!! I was having a soup for breakfast because I have a head cold / allergies and there is rice in it and I accidentally ate a bit of rice!! I logged it in my journal but I am worried that is going to mess up ketosis. It might seem petty, but I am worried about this triggering more severe cravings. I understand not all carbs are created equal, and the amount I ate really didn't effect my carb count that bad, but again, I am a little concerned about the over all effects of this boo boo. It was Spanish style rice because I bought the chicken soup at a small little Mexican place on the way to work. They know me there are know I don't like the rice in the soup. There really wasn't a lot in there, but the amount on my food journal is just a "guestimate" . Any help here PLEASE. CALLING ALL GURUS!!

I wouldn't sweat a bite of rice. Just get right back on track tomorrow. I would say that one bite wouldn't make much difference, if any in Ketosis. It may through it off for a day, but don't sweat it.

I think your worrying about nothing. Many people go off for a meal and go back on. Just keep going and you'll be fine.

agreed. a bit of rice shouldn't hurt you. Just move forward and don't look back.

Thank you. I guess I just needed reassurance. I have been working really hard and just don't want to throw it all off. Breaking away from rice and tortillas was really hard, because of the type of cooking I am used to. I grew up around the border and my husband is from Spain but lived in Mexico for a while growing up, so most of my main dinners consisted of beans and rice in some form and a side of tortillas. I guess the thought of rice kinda freaks me out, since I now know all the damage it can do carb wise. Thanks again.

Have you tried the cauliflower dish that is mock rice? If you like rice cauliflower can be cooked and ground up to the consistency of rice. Look in the recipe section. Cauliflower can also be use for mock mashed potatoes when it is blended even smoother. Tastes great with some bacon on top. You are doing awesome with your weight loss. Keep up the good work.

Just noticed that you have the mock mashed potatoes in your cookbook. How do you feed all those teen aged boys?

The boys have always eaten veggies, so as long as there is cheese on it. Its my step kids that I got to trick. Usually by grocery bill doubles when they are all home.
