I am happy despite my heavy period because I ended up losing a bit of weight -- so not gaining any -- while eating sweet-tasting cupcakes all week! I made some last Saturday and they are about 1 to 2 net carbs a portion (the Good Dee's brand), so they are pretty much guilt-free even with some frosting.
It was a good week. The snow melted pretty fast on my birthday and the next day, so no shovelling. However, it snowed a much heavier snow on Wednesday, then the icy spots on the sidewalks and my driveway became very slippery with the warming temperature. I need to go buy some more salt before an accident happens! Today is going to be a nice day weather-wise (mix of sun and clouds, better than mix of snow and rain).
I am kind of amazed at the US/Canada differences when it comes to food and eating trends. Both countries have about the same issues -- fast-food and processed food availability, sedentarity, HFCS/glucose-fructose in almost everything -- but keto is so popular in the US that anti-keto groups are attacking this diet relentlessly these days; whereas in Canada, in spite of a bit of a keto breakthrough everything is "vegan this, vegan that" and meat is seen in a bad light, especially in Quebec (and maybe BC). It seems that in Canada, you have to be a vegan, a vegetarian, or at least a flexitarian to be considered a "good person" in order to "save the environment". While I think this is laudable, I doubt very much that more than 7 billion people eating only plants is the magical solution everyone assumes it is. However, eating too much meat is not a good idea either. At the very same time in the US, keto-friendly people are afraid to eat soy-based products, while tofu was briefly sold out in January in Canada!
I'll stop with the rambling now. Have a nice weekend!
