vb_val's Journal, 19 Feb 19

First day of journaling my food. I have tried this in the past with other apps and never been successful. I hope this time I can stick with it. I have 30 pounds to lose that are left over from Chemo for Breast Cancer... nobody ever warns you that most women actually gain weight during chemotherapy!? I guess it was the constant nausea that is only eased with crackers, bagels and other carbs... I guess I’m just grateful to still be here. I have been given a second chance at life so why can’t I make the most of it? Eat healthy, exercise and feel good? Instead I’m tired all the time and just want to sleep or sit on the couch and watch Netflix. I make it to my job everyday and I go to the gym for weight training 3 times a week. I even get on the treadmill and walk/jog 2 times a week but it doesn’t give me more energy like it used to. I need my motivation back! I want to feel strong, healthy and energetic again!!

It takes a long time to recover from the chemo...sometimes years. But, being ALIVE to do the recovery is your blessing. Give yourself plenty of time, don't push too hard. Your body has been through a lot...this I know from personal experience. You will feel healthier, in time. Positive thoughts, sunshine, and gentle treatment. You got this!

Thank you for the encouragement, it’s nice to hear from someone who has been through this that it gets better eventually 😊. God bless you! 💕

They told me I may gain 10# after my hysterectomy and I gained 4. They said I may gain a ‘few’ with chemo and I gained 14!! My depression got worse and I didn’t want to do anything but read and eat so I gained 10# in 7 months after chemo. I began with 12# extra. I started hard. Walking was good but dropping to 1200 kcal and cutting out all sweets and such wasn’t a good idea. I lost quickly but was miserable. I’ve been here since 3/19/18 and I started my diet two weeks before that. If you ever want to talk or advice feel free to message me! I use the app though so comment on one of my posts that you messaged me so I can go check :).

Peeperjj - I just saw this.. not sure how I missed it but thank you for sharing your experience and offering your support. You are an inspiration for me for sure! I read your profile and I can totally relate to the chemo-brain thing. It's weird how it remains and pops up out of nowhere sometimes - my husband just laughs with me when I do or say something totally ignorant or crazy. My long and short term memory are terrible now too but I told my husband it's kind of nice that I can enjoy a show or movie a second or third time because I don't remember watching it... He tells me "you've already seen this one" and I just smile and say it's new to me, don't remember it at all. :-)

I hadn’t thought of that! I do start on books and halfway through remember all the rest. Had to return 3 books last week because of that. Confusing words is my worst thing right now. But yeah, you either laugh or cry and some of us choose to laugh.
