Does a 120 grams of protein sound too high ? I read somewhere .8 g per pound of weight. I sometimes eat between 70-100 grams but I find it hard. I do eat a lot of lean protein from chicken and turkey and cottage cheese too. I don’t like beef too much or fatty meats. Wondering how to eat more protein without eating too much meat. Any advice ?

The only time you shouldn’t have a high protein diet is if you have kidney problems, other than that if it’s healthy then it doesn’t matter because all it does is break down the excess protein and use it for energy. As for other protein foods, not sure if you like fish. I eat almonds all the time or peanuts. Brussels sprouts is high in protein, shrimp, tuna, broccoli, oats and of course eggs 🍳 😃

There's some current research that says older adults need more protein to help maintain muscle. It's suggested they need about a gram per pound of body weight rather than .8 as for younger adults. I weigh 163 pounds and am 70 so am trying to eat more protein and exercise more in order to maintain and build muscle. It seems high doesn't it? It's hard to keep calories down and boost protein intake but by eating fish, meat, Greek yogurt, eggs and drinking skim milk I do my best. Seeds, nuts, beans, nutritional yeast and tofu contain protein too.

new research shows that you just need 1g of protein per kg of weight. I still just to be safe make sure im getting 0.7g of protein / pound and still making gains. "Adults require no more than 0.8 or 0.9 grams of protein per healthy kilogram of body weight per day. So, that’s like your ideal weight in pounds, multiplied by four, and then divided by ten. So, someone whose ideal weight is 100 pounds may require up to 40 grams of protein a day. On average, they probably only need about 30 grams a day, which is .66 grams per kilogram, but we say 0.8 or 0.9 because everyone’s different, and we want to capture most of the bell curve." https://nutritionfacts.org/audio/how-much-is-enough-protein/ Dr Greger gives great information

Thanks for the comment Guperan. I made a mistake about the protein requirement. It was .8 per kilogram not per pound. So for the elderly, 1 gram per kilogram is suggested but maybe it's per healthy kilogram. I should weigh closer to 130 pounds not 160 as I currently weigh. Any clarification on that point?

No problem! I suggest getting at least around 60-70grams(130lbs) just to be safe in terms of protein to avoid sarcopenia(muscle loss). If you can't get that per day, then supplement with a protein powder.

So if I weigh 160 How many grams a day ?

I aim for 60-70 grams per day from fish, chicken, eggs, skim milk, yogurt, flax, nuts, peanut butter, beans, tofu, nutritional yeast and some red meat. There's some protein in veggies and grains too.

alifestyle...your protein intake seems high to me. At least today's gram count is pretty high at lunchtime. You must be bursting with energy.

Ha ha trillium. I am trying to reduce my carbs, and I can’t eat just salads for lunch because I would be hungry in like seconds 😫

72.5-100g of protein is good enough for a 160lb person.

Thanks Guperan I think that’s pretty accurate !

1 to 2 grams of protein per pound body mass is reasonable according to books I have read I know one says that when starting Keto it should be a minimum of 150g protein for first three weeks And for some they recommend staying at that level I have about 100-160g per day depending on the day (and time of month 😀🤣)

Eggs are a good source in protein, minus the fat. I eat 2 to 3 eggs daily.
