ShyGuy's Journal, 22 Aug 12

Okay, thankfulness journal #, whatever. LOL

I really enjoy Greek Food, and I'm thankful, that by making some great choices, a lot of it is, or can be, Low Carb. :-) I've been blessed with a treasure trove of, great, resources to use in making some phenominal Greek food. My backyard has four kinds of fruit trees in it; cherry, pear, peach and apple; it also has a bunch of grape vines, which are on the verge of taking over the yard. I've been doing some research, lately, on the use of all these fruit woods, the vines, and some wood from the black walnut trees, which inhabit my brother's, and sister's yards; in a Smoke N Grill, cooker I just so happen to have, which my dad never got around to using. I also looked up, on how to use the grape leaves, to make my own Dolmades, stuffed grape leaves. I'm harvesting some of the wood, from all the trees, in containers, to set aside for my next BBQ, or for use in the smoker. I'll wait, until wintertime, to get some of the grape vines, which can also be used in the smoker. I'll also be vacuum packing, and freezing, a lot of the leaves, so I can make dolmades whenever I want. Have a great day, everyone; I'm off to get some of that black walnut wood. :-)

I grew up with a backyard like you describe - my Grandfather had an orchard. I am jealous!

I love your backyard. Mine only has an old swingset and my small veggie garden.

I grew up in Cyprus, with all these wonderful things, I was a lovely skinny child so the Mediteranian diet works...I remember our fruit trees and the grapes were incredible. I used to eat so much fruit back then...my fav salad is Greek salad, I couldn't live without it. Thank god for Atkins. I need to take a look at your recipes they all sound so yummy. I didn't know you could grow all those fruits here...who knew LOL

Thanks Yvonne; the fruit trees, and grape vines are my dad's doings. When we moved into the house, in the early 60's, there was only the pear tree in the yard; my parents added the apple tree, when my brother was born; he still considers the tree to be his; so I had to assure him, today, that I wouldn't be cutting it down, just pruning a few branches for my purposes. The peach and cherry trees, were added over the years, along with the grape vines, because my dad was very proficient at making home made wines; though his honey wine was my favorite. :-)
