Eating out is always a challenge for me. Today I had a so-called light lunch (crustless quiche) but it was so packed with sodium that I know the scale will shoot up tomorrow. It was like stepping up to a salt-lick. I also caved and shared a piece of lemon meringue pie with my husband. At home I can weigh my portions, control the salt added and not be tempted by desserts. How do others handle eating at friends' houses and restaurants?

Best choice is salad with dressing aside, but it can get boring very quickly so sometimes i choose grilled fish with vegetables... as for dessert, i try not to look at them or have ONE bite

Fish and veggies or rice small portions. Grilled chicken and veggies. Don’t feel guilty and enjoy just don’t do it too often lol I do eat ice cream and pizza once in a while but I don’t eat three or four slices like before. I just eat one :) it’s a lifestyle. Good luck

I try to choose the healthiest option and the not so healthy ones I have only a little of. The first few months of my “change”, I was absolutely terrified to go anywhere. It was not a healthy mindset but I was convinced one taste would send me down a rabbit hole, but that didn’t happen. I feel better when I enjoy those little things rather than feeling guilty, appreciate those little pleasures.

Thanks for the encouraging suggestions Bianca, Nikkiferrera and TorStar80. I love fish, veggies and salads (no dressing at all). That rabbit hole is always waiting. Just one ripple chip and I'm doomed to eat the entire bag.

Sallymax1 the best part of being on vacation for me is walking everywhere. So as long as you’re moving eat, have fun and be merry lol

Well sometimes you just have to go out and enjoy yourself... :) There are a couple of things that I will do to increase the odds of making an informed decision. 1) I like to ask the waiter/waitress if they have a nutritional menu. 2) I always ask for the dressing/sauces/toppings to come on the side, so I can estimate and control how much of it I eat. 3) Find simple meals that you enjoy that are relatively common. Some of mine are grilled chicken breast on a garden salad; steak and baked potato; ham and cheese omelette with a side of fresh fruit

Thanks everyone for sharing the wisdom! So far I’m doing really well and not feeling deprived. My downfall is...those fantastic PEI Potatoes- French fried!!! So I order my good healthy meal and steal 3 ff from hubby. And I’m happy . Lol
